Stream profile

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009315

A longitudinal cross-section of a stream channel, showing the elevation of the streambed from its headwaters to its mouth. An ideal or 'graded' stream profile typically exhibits a concave-upward curve, with a steeper gradient in the upper reaches and a gentler slope downstream. Deviations from this profile can indicate geological controls or recent disturbances.
