Capture
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004154
The process in cloud physics by which a larger falling hydrometeor, such as a raindrop or ice crystal, collides with and merges with smaller cloud particles in its path. This mechanism, also known as collection or accretion, is a primary way that precipitation elements grow large enough to fall to the ground. The efficiency of capture depends on the relative sizes and fall speeds of the interacting particles.
