Capture
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001613
A process in which an atom or a nucleus takes up an extra particle, such as a nucleus absorbing a neutron or a proton, or an atom or nucleus taking in an electron. A specification of the type or energy of the captured particle is usually added, as in thermal neutron capture. The probability of a capture reaction is expressed as a capture cross-section in barns.
