Electron capture
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003711
A type of radioactive decay in which an atomic nucleus absorbs an inner atomic electron, typically from the K or L shell. This process converts a proton into a neutron, emitting a neutrino and characteristic X-rays or Auger electrons. The atomic number of the nuclide decreases by one, while the mass number remains unchanged.
