Electron capture detector
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003712
A gas chromatography detector that selectively responds to compounds with high electron affinity, such as halogenated organic compounds. It operates by ionizing a carrier gas with a radioactive source, creating a steady current of electrons. When an electron-capturing analyte passes through, it reduces this current, which is then measured.
