Electron capture ionization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013061
A soft ionization technique used in mass spectrometry where a molecule captures a low-energy electron to form a negative ion. This process is highly selective for compounds with high electron affinity, such as halogenated compounds or molecules containing electronegative functional groups. It typically results in molecular ions with little fragmentation, aiding in molecular weight determination.
