Dissociative electron capture
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003324
An ionization mechanism in which a molecule captures a low-energy electron to form a transient negative ion in a dissociative state, which falls apart directly into a stable anionic fragment and one or more neutral fragments. It is a form of dissociative ionization, and it is distinct from electron capture dissociation, in which a multiply charged cation captures an electron.
