Dissociative surface reaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003326

A chemical reaction occurring on a surface where at least one reactant molecule undergoes bond cleavage upon adsorption or during the reaction pathway. This process leads to the formation of smaller fragments that are then involved in subsequent reaction steps. An example is the decomposition of ammonia on a catalyst surface.
