Predissociation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009373
A process where a molecule, excited to a discrete rovibronic state, undergoes non-radiative decay to a dissociative continuum of another electronic state with the same energy. This leads to the fragmentation of the molecule even though it was initially excited to a bound state. It results in a broadening of spectral lines in the absorption spectrum.
