Borderline mechanism

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001438

A reaction mechanism that does not fit neatly into a purely dissociative or purely associative pathway, exhibiting characteristics of both. This often occurs when the transition state involves partial bond breaking and partial bond formation simultaneously. Such mechanisms are common in nucleophilic substitution reactions at saturated carbon.
