Electrocyclic reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003667
A type of pericyclic reaction involving the formation of a new sigma bond between the termini of a conjugated pi system, or the reverse process. This reaction occurs through a concerted mechanism, where bond breaking and bond formation happen simultaneously in a cyclic transition state. The stereochemistry of the product is determined by the number of pi electrons and whether the reaction is thermally or photochemically induced.
