Pericyclic reaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008637

A type of organic reaction that proceeds through a single, concerted transition state involving a cyclic redistribution of electrons. These reactions do not involve ionic or radical intermediates. Examples include cycloadditions, electrocyclic reactions, and sigmatropic rearrangements, and their outcomes are often predicted by orbital symmetry rules.
