Concerted process
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002376
A set of two or more primitive changes, such as bond breaking and bond making, that take place within the same elementary reaction, so that no intermediate lies between them. The changes are normally energetically coupled, so the combined change goes through a lower-energy transition state than the changes taking place one by one would. A concerted process need not be synchronous, because the bonds often change to unequal extents at the transition state.
