Pseudopericyclic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009639
A concerted reaction whose bonding changes occur around a cyclic array of atoms, with at least one atom where a nonbonding and a bonding orbital exchange roles, breaking the continuous orbital overlap around the ring. Because the transition state is not fully conjugated, the orbital symmetry restrictions of the Woodward-Hoffmann type do not apply. The enol-to-enol proton shift in acetylacetone is a formal example.
