Conjugated system
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002443
An arrangement of alternating single and multiple bonds within a molecule, creating a region where electrons are delocalized over several adjacent atoms. This delocalization occurs through overlapping p-orbitals, which extend across the connected atoms. Such systems exhibit enhanced stability and often lead to characteristic absorption of light in the ultraviolet or visible regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.
