Conjugation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002444
The process of genetic recombination in bacteria where genetic material is transferred from a donor bacterium to a recipient bacterium through direct cell-to-cell contact. This transfer typically involves a plasmid, which carries genes for traits like antibiotic resistance. The F-plasmid in Escherichia coli is a well-studied example of a conjugative plasmid.
