Transduction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012207
The process by which foreign DNA is introduced into a bacterial cell by a bacteriophage or virus. This genetic transfer mechanism can result in the acquisition of new traits by the recipient bacterium. Generalized transduction involves the transfer of any bacterial gene, while specialized transduction transfers only specific genes adjacent to the prophage insertion site.
