Vector
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012533
A DNA molecule, such as a plasmid or virus, used as a vehicle to artificially carry foreign genetic material into another cell. This allows for the replication and expression of the inserted gene within the host organism. Common vectors include plasmids for bacterial transformation and viral vectors for gene therapy in eukaryotic cells.
