Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005896
A segment of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) that has been introduced into a vector, such as a plasmid or viral genome, for cloning or expression. This DNA fragment typically contains a gene or regulatory sequence of interest. The insert is ligated into the vector using restriction enzymes and DNA ligase, forming recombinant DNA.
