Insertion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005897
A chemical reaction in which one molecular entity is incorporated between two parts of another molecular entity. This process often involves the breaking of a bond in the substrate and the formation of two new bonds with the inserting species. A common example is the insertion of carbon monoxide into a metal-alkyl bond.
