Extrusion transformation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004315

A chemical transformation in which an atom or group, originally bonded to two other atoms within a molecule, is ejected, leading to the formation of a new bond between those two atoms. This process is the formal reverse of an insertion reaction. A well-known example is the thermal extrusion of sulfur dioxide from a cyclic sulfone to form an alkene, or nitrogen from a diazene to form a C-C bond.
