Extrinsic semiconductor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004314

A semiconductor material whose electrical conductivity is significantly enhanced by the controlled addition of impurities, known as dopants. These dopants create either an excess of free electrons (n-type) or holes (p-type), increasing the number of charge carriers. Silicon doped with boron or phosphorus is a common example.
