Charge carrier generation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001893
The process by which mobile charge carriers, namely electrons and holes, are created within a material. In polymers, this can occur through several mechanisms, including the absorption of photons (photogeneration), the application of a strong electric field, or thermal excitation. A common pathway is the dissociation of an exciton, a bound electron-hole pair, into free carriers that can contribute to electrical current.
