PIN semiconductor detector
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008972
A type of semiconductor radiation detector consisting of an intrinsic (i) region sandwiched between p-type and n-type semiconductor layers. When reverse biased, the intrinsic region acts as a depletion zone where incident radiation creates electron-hole pairs, which are then collected to produce an electrical signal. These detectors are used for detecting X-rays and gamma rays.
