Pinacols
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008973
A class of organic compounds that are vicinal diols, meaning they contain two hydroxyl groups on adjacent carbon atoms, with both carbons being tertiary. They are typically formed by the reductive coupling of ketones or aldehydes. The parent compound is 2,3-dimethylbutane-2,3-diol, also known as pinacol.
