Photodecarbonylation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008838
A photochemical reaction involving the elimination of a carbon monoxide (CO) molecule from an organic compound upon irradiation with light. This process often occurs in aldehydes and ketones, leading to the formation of hydrocarbon fragments. It is a type of Norrish Type I photoreaction, where bond cleavage occurs adjacent to the carbonyl group.
