Norrish Type II photoreaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008081
A photochemical reaction of carbonyl compounds containing a hydrogen atom on the gamma-carbon, involving intramolecular hydrogen abstraction by the excited carbonyl oxygen. This abstraction leads to the formation of a 1,4-biradical intermediate. The biradical can then undergo cyclization to form a cyclobutanol or cleavage to yield an alkene and an enol.
