Diabatic photoreaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003120

A photochemical reaction where the electronic state of the molecule changes during the course of the reaction, meaning the reaction proceeds on different potential energy surfaces. This contrasts with an adiabatic photoreaction, where the electronic state remains the same throughout the process. Such reactions are often characterized by non-radiative transitions between electronic states.
