Abstraction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000084

A type of chemical reaction where an atom or a group of atoms is removed from one molecule by another molecule or radical. This process often involves the breaking of a covalent bond and the formation of a new one. Hydrogen atom abstraction by radicals is a common example in organic chemistry, leading to radical chain reactions.
