Barton reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012914
A photochemical reaction involving the homolytic cleavage of a nitrite ester to generate an alkoxyl radical, which then undergoes intramolecular hydrogen atom abstraction. This process leads to the formation of a carbon-centered radical, which can subsequently react with nitric oxide. The reaction is particularly effective for the functionalization of unactivated carbon atoms.
