Photolysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008890
The chemical process of breaking down a compound by means of light energy, specifically through the absorption of photons. This leads to the cleavage of chemical bonds within the molecule, forming smaller fragments, radicals, or ions. Photolysis is a fundamental process in atmospheric chemistry and in many photochemical reactions.
