Photodissociation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008847
The process by which a chemical compound is broken down into smaller fragments through the absorption of light energy. This phenomenon occurs when a molecule absorbs a photon with sufficient energy to cleave one or more chemical bonds. In mass spectrometry, it is a method for fragmenting ions for structural elucidation.
