Analytical pyrolysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000555
A technique that involves the thermal decomposition of a sample in an inert atmosphere, followed by the analysis of the volatile products. The sample is rapidly heated to high temperatures, causing it to break down into smaller, more volatile fragments. These fragments are then separated and identified, typically by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, to characterize the original material.
