Degree of fragmentation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002948

The mass fraction of a material that has broken up into fragments under stated conditions, whatever the cause. It describes the physical breakup of an object, not chain scission at the molecular level, which is what the degree of degradation follows through a molecular-size-sensitive property. When the fragmenting action is by cells, the corresponding measure is the degree of biofragmentation.
