Photodynamic effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008848
The phenomenon where a substance, known as a photosensitizer, absorbs light energy and then transfers this energy to molecular oxygen, generating reactive oxygen species. These species, such as singlet oxygen or free radicals, then cause damage to surrounding biological tissues or other organic molecules. This effect is applied in photodynamic therapy for treating certain medical conditions.
