Singlet molecular oxygen
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013562
An excited state of molecular oxygen (O2) in which all electrons are spin-paired, resulting in a total spin angular momentum of zero. This species is highly reactive and possesses different chemical properties compared to ground-state triplet oxygen. It can participate in oxidation reactions and is often generated photochemically through photosensitization.
