Term symbols
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011875
A spectroscopic notation used to represent the electronic states of atoms and molecules, derived from the coupling of individual electron angular momenta. They convey information about the total orbital angular momentum (L), total spin angular momentum (S), and multiplicity (2S+1) of an electronic state. For example, a 1S term symbol indicates a singlet state with zero total orbital angular momentum.
