Spin-orbit coupling constant
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011220
A parameter that quantifies the strength of the interaction between the intrinsic angular momentum (spin) of an electron and its orbital angular momentum. This interaction leads to the splitting of energy levels in atoms and molecules, influencing their spectroscopic properties. It is typically denoted by 'A' and measured in units of energy, such as joules or cm⁻¹.
