Hyperfine coupling
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005513
The interaction between the magnetic moment of an electron and the magnetic moment of an atomic nucleus, leading to a splitting of energy levels. This interaction is quantified by the hyperfine coupling constant, which is a measure of the strength of the interaction. It is a key parameter in electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy for determining molecular structure.
