Hyperfine

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005512

Relating to the interactions between the magnetic moments of electrons and atomic nuclei, which cause splitting of spectral lines into closely spaced components. This effect is observed in atomic and molecular spectra, particularly in electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. The magnitude of hyperfine splitting provides information about the electron spin density at the nucleus.
