Multiplet
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007668
A group of closely spaced lines in a spectrum, arising from the splitting of a single energy level or transition into several components due to interactions within the molecule. In nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, a multiplet results from spin-spin coupling between neighboring nuclei. The number of lines in a multiplet follows the n+1 rule for equivalent neighboring protons.
