Multiplex advantage
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013310
The improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio achieved when a spectroscopic instrument measures multiple spectral channels concurrently rather than sequentially. This occurs in techniques like Fourier transform spectroscopy and those using array detectors, where all resolution elements are observed for the entire measurement duration. The theoretical improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio is proportional to the square root of the number of spectral elements being measured simultaneously.
