Wavelength in vacuum
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012654
The spatial period of an electromagnetic wave as it propagates through a perfect vacuum, representing the distance between consecutive points of identical phase. It is calculated by dividing the speed of light in a vacuum (c) by the wave's frequency (ν). Unlike the wavelength in a material medium, the vacuum wavelength is a fundamental property of the radiation, independent of any medium's refractive index.
