Internal reflection
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005970
The phenomenon where electromagnetic radiation traveling within a medium strikes an interface with a second medium at an angle greater than the critical angle, causing the radiation to reflect back into the first medium. This occurs when the refractive index of the first medium is higher than that of the second medium. The reflected radiation can penetrate a short distance into the second medium as an evanescent wave.
