Reflection

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010090

The return of electromagnetic radiation into the first medium at a boundary between two media. For a non-scattering sample this is Fresnel reflection from the smooth interface, while a scattering sample gives regular reflection plus volume reflection or diffuse reflection. Part of the radiation is usually transmitted or absorbed at the boundary, and in specular reflection the angle of reflection equals the angle of incidence.
