Fresnel reflection

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004671

The reflection of electromagnetic radiation that occurs at the interface between two media with different refractive indices, where the reflection coefficient depends on the angle of incidence and the polarization of the light. This type of reflection is observed at smooth surfaces and is described by the Fresnel equations. It is a fundamental phenomenon in optics and spectroscopy.
