Mössbauer spectrometry

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007591

A spectroscopic technique that probes the hyperfine interactions between an atomic nucleus and its surrounding electrons. It relies on the recoil-free emission and resonant absorption of gamma rays by atomic nuclei in a solid sample. This method is highly sensitive to the chemical environment, oxidation state, and magnetic properties of specific isotopes, such as iron-57.
