Recoil-free fraction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010016
The proportion of gamma-ray emission or absorption events in Mössbauer spectroscopy that occur without a change in the vibrational energy of the crystal lattice. This fraction, also known as the f-factor, is a measure of the probability that the nucleus remains in its lattice site during the emission or absorption process. It is temperature-dependent and decreases with increasing temperature.
