Resonance cross-section
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010244
The effective area presented by a nucleus for the resonant absorption of a gamma ray in Mössbauer spectroscopy, representing the probability of the interaction. This cross-section is at its maximum at the exact resonance energy and is described by the Breit-Wigner formula. Its maximum value depends on the gamma-ray wavelength, the nuclear spin states of the ground and excited levels, and the internal conversion coefficient.
