Effective thermal cross-section
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003594
A measure of the probability that a thermal neutron will induce a specific nuclear reaction in a target nucleus. It represents the apparent area presented by a nucleus to an incident thermal neutron for a particular interaction. This value is typically expressed in barns (1 barn = 10^-28 m^2).
